Roxy & Tom’s Curds Hall Barn Wedding: A Wedding Film With a Difference

Bride and groom in field at curds hall barn in norfolk

There are some weddings where you turn up with your cameras, film the day, capture the speeches, vows, confetti, dancing and then go home…and then there are weddings like Roxy and Tom’s.

Their Curds Hall Barn wedding in Norfolk was relaxed, personal, a little bit emotional and at times, completely bonkers. Which is exactly how a wedding should be.

Curds Hall Barn is a brilliant setting for this kind of wedding. Tucked away in the Norfolk countryside between Swaffham and Dereham, it has that lovely combination of rustic character and space to make the day completely your own.

But what made Roxy and Tom’s day particularly memorable for me wasn’t just the venue, it was the fact that, for once, I wasn’t the only one filming.

The wedding videographer with a camcorder

I had an idea for Roxy and Tom’s wedding to hand an old camcorder to the groomsmen.

Yep. A proper little old school camcorder.

Rather than me being the only person responsible for capturing their wedding day, the groomsmen were given the job of filming bits and pieces throughout the day themselves and honestly, I loved it.

There is something completely different about footage filmed by the people who are actually experiencing the wedding. It’s not perfectly framed, it’s not always steady (we’re not all perfect), it’s not necessarily the shot I would have taken.

And that’s exactly why it works.

Why I loved having guest footage in their wedding film

As a Norfolk wedding videographer, I’m always looking for the little moments that might otherwise be missed. I want my wedding films to feel like the day actually felt rather than just looking like a collection of beautiful shots.

The camcorder took that one step further.

Roxy and Tom’s friends were able to capture things I simply couldn’t. They were there in rooms I wasn’t in, they were with their friends, they were experiencing the day alongside Roxy and Tom.

That meant the final wedding films could include their perspective of the day as well as mine and I think that makes the film much more personal.

There’s something about old-school home-video footage that instantly feels nostalgic. You don’t watch it because it’s technically perfect, you watch it because you were there.

Years from now, I think those little clips are going to be some of the things Roxy and Tom treasure the most.

Then came the moment that got Tom

Of course, no wedding day is complete without at least one moment that catches you completely off guard. For Tom, that moment came during the ceremony.

Before their young daughter walked down the aisle, a recording of her was played over the speakers and watching Tom hear her voice before she appeared was one of those moments where you could see the emotion hit him immediately.

This is one of the reasons I love wedding films. A photograph can capture Tom’s expression in that moment but a film can give you the whole thing.

You can hear his daughter’s voice, you can hear the atmosphere in the room, you can hear the reaction around him and then you can see Tom trying to hold it together.

That’s why audio is such a big part of my wedding films, it’s not just about having beautiful images, it’s about hearing the people you love.

A Curds Hall Barn wedding with plenty of personality

I’m not sure how many times you’ve seen a couple make their entrance into their wedding breakfast on space hoppers, I’ve certainly never filmed it before but Roxy and Tom did exactly that.

After everything that had already happened during the day, they made their entrance on space hoppers and it was brilliant.

It’s moments like this that remind me why I love filming weddings, you can spend months planning a wedding, you can choose the perfect venue, flowers, outfits, decorations and everything else but sometimes the moments you’ll remember most are the ones where you simply let go and have fun.

Why this is exactly what I love about wedding videography

One of the biggest reasons I love being a wedding videographer in Norfolk is that no two weddings are ever the same.

I don’t want every wedding film to look identical, I don’t want to turn up, run through a checklist of shots and then leave. I want to capture what actually happens.

The big moments are important, obviously.

The vows.

The speeches.

The first dance.

The confetti.

But it’s the little things around those moments that can make a wedding film really personal. A daughter’s voice coming over the speakers, a groom trying not to cry, friends filming each other on a camcorder, the bride and groom bouncing into their wedding breakfast on space hoppers.

Those are the things that make Roxy and Tom’s wedding their wedding.

A wedding film that feels like them

When I make a wedding film, my aim is always for you to watch it back and feel like you’re back there. Not just remember what happened. Feel it.

I want you to hear the voices of people who were there, see the little moments you didn’t notice on the day, hear the laughter, remember the nerves, remember the people and hopefully, remember exactly what it felt like to be there.

Roxy and Tom’s Curds Hall Barn wedding film has all of that.

Beautiful moments, emotional moments, fun moments and, thanks to the groomsmen, a load of footage that I wouldn’t have been able to capture myself.

I think that’s what makes it so special.
