Faye & Joe’s Norfolk Mead Wedding | Norfolk Wedding Videographer

Faye & Joe’s Fun-Filled Wedding at The Norfolk Mead | Norfolk Wedding Videographer

There are some weddings where you spend the whole day trying to keep up with what’s happening. Faye & Joe’s wedding at The Norfolk Mead was definitely one of those.

From donkeys delivering the confetti, to lawn games, walks around the grounds, plenty of laughing and a dance floor that was properly getting involved, this was exactly the kind of wedding day I love filming.

Faye & Joe had actually booked me after seeing the wedding film I had made for their friends. As soon as Faye saw it, she told me they “had to get in contact immediately” and book me.

Love to hear that!

A wedding that already felt familiar

One of the things I loved about this wedding was how many little connections there were. Faye and Joe had known each other since they were young, so this wasn’t just a couple meeting later in life and starting their story together. They had actually grown up together.

There was also a brilliant bit of deja vu for me during the preparations. Faye got ready at the same house where I had filmed her friend’s wedding previously at the bride’s mum’s house. That previous bride, Megan, was there as one of Faye’s bridesmaids and the groom Josh was one of Joe’s groomsmen.

So before the wedding had even properly got going, there were already familiar faces and plenty of laughs.

Faye & Joe: absolutely no interest in taking things too seriously

If I had to describe Faye and Joe in a few words, I’d say fun, relaxed and completely themselves. They’ve got a great sense of humour and neither of them seemed particularly interested in taking the traditional “stand perfectly still and smile at the camera” approach.

Which suited me perfectly.

When we headed out for some photos and video around the grounds, there was no awkward posing or trying to manufacture moments. They were just… being Faye and Joe. Walking around, messing about, laughing at each other and generally having a good time.

And honestly, that’s exactly what I want from a wedding film.

I’m not there to turn your wedding day into a two-hour photoshoot. I’m there to capture what it actually felt like to be there.

Donkeys, confetti and a very surprised wedding party

Then came one of my favourite moments of the day. The Confetti. Except this wasn’t your standard confetti line, there were donkeys!

The donkeys arrived carrying the confetti, completely surprising the guests in the process. It’s one of those things that’s almost impossible to plan into a wedding film because the reactions are what make it so good.

You’ve got the couple, you’ve got the guests, you’ve got the donkeys… and then you’ve got everyone’s faces as they realise what’s happening.

Lawn games, laughs and enjoying the grounds

The Norfolk Mead gave Faye & Joe plenty of space to make the most of the afternoon. There were lawn games including giant Jenga and croquet, which fitted the relaxed feel of the day perfectly.

Rather than everyone standing around waiting for the next formal part of the wedding, people were outside, playing games, chatting and enjoying themselves and that’s something I always think makes a massive difference to a wedding film.

Those little in-between moments. The games, the conversations, people laughing in the background, someone getting far too competitive at Jenga, they are the things that help tell the story of the day.

No awkward posing, just Faye & Joe being Faye & Joe

One of my favourite parts of filming the day was heading out with Faye and Joe for some time together around the grounds. But of course, it wasn’t about forcing them into a load of stiff poses.

We walked. We talked. We laughed.

They took the piss out of each other. Basically, they did what they normally do.

That’s the approach I try to take whenever I’m filming a couple. I’d much rather give you the space to interact naturally than spend twenty minutes telling you exactly where to put your hands. Those in-between moments where you’re smiling and laughing are what I love to capture.

If you’re comfortable enough to forget the camera is there, that’s when I can get the good stuff.

And then the dance floor got involved…

Once the evening kicked off, things definitely didn’t get any quieter. The dance floor was full of energy, with plenty of movement, laughs and the sort of moments that make an evening reception so much fun to film.

There’s something about the dance floor at a wedding that always brings out a different side of people, the formalities are over, everyone’s had a few drinks, the music is on and suddenly people who spent the afternoon being perfectly respectable are throwing shapes on the dance floor.

That’s when I always get right in the middle of it with my camera.

A Norfolk wedding day full of personality

Faye & Joe’s wedding at The Norfolk Mead was exactly what a wedding should be, it was personal, it was relaxed but more importantly, there were two people who were completely comfortable being themselves and that’s what made the day so easy and enjoyable to film.

I’m a Norfolk wedding videographer and one of my favourite things about filming weddings around Norfolk is that no two days ever feel the same. The venue might be beautiful but it’s the people, personalities and little unexpected moments that make the film.

Faye & Joe had plenty of those.
